Initial Teacher Training

Trinity

The Trinity Teaching Alliance, based at Golborne High School, is a centre of excellence for Teaching and Learning. We are a collaboration of like-minded educational establishments which has outstanding teacher training at it’s centre.

Our school direct teacher training course aims to support trainee teachers in Primary, Secondary and Special education as they move through the training and qualifying process, awarding a PGCE with Master’s credits and QTS. We have chosen Liverpool Hope as our accredited provider.

Trainees with the Trinity Teaching Alliance will be in familiar local surroundings, perhaps even training to teach in the school or college they went to. They'll gain confidence from the sense of place and belonging which will give our teachers of the future that extra boost in their training year.

At Trinity Teaching Alliance, we take the lead role in developing you as a teacher. You will have the opportunity to work alongside the very best teachers during both your placement and training sessions. Our School Direct course will give you unique insights into what teaching really looks like. You will develop into not only an excellent classroom teacher, but also the potential to be a future leader of education. The high quality training during your School Direct year will enable you to make a real difference to the lives of young people.

We work closely with our local partners to place trainees in good or outstanding schools in the Wigan Local Authority. Our key partners are:

Course Information:

On our School Direct course, you will have the opportunity to work in two contrasting placement schools. When you start your teacher training course, you will be allocated your own subject mentor and will be a fully inducted member of Liverpool Hope University. Our diverse team of mentors are highly knowledgeable and experienced teachers, who will provide you with personalised coaching and support. In addition to this you will receive support from your professional mentors.

Mentors are here to make sure that your training is the best it can be and to help you grow and develop as a professional. Alongside your mentors, Liverpool Hope University has an excellent team of professional consultants who are linked to your training placement, who will work with you on a one-to-one basis, supporting you in all aspects of your training.

Successful applicants will begin the course in September of each academic year. It is a one year full time course. You will be on placement in school or college for four days of the week with one regular day of the week set aside for focused training and development which is predominantly facilitated at the Trinity Teaching Alliance Hub at Golborne High School with occasional training (maximum of 6 times throughout the course) at Liverpool Hope University campus. There are several written assignments throughout the year, as well as on going assessment of your classroom based practice. Teaching and mentoring is supportive, constructive and because of the smaller size of our alliance, your learning needs are catered for in a bespoke package. We have the time and capacity to get to know you as individuals, to work with you on your particular areas of development, and to make sure you are thriving and progressing as the academic year unfolds.

This means that by the end of the year you will be fully equipped with the skills needed to work in any school. You will have the understanding needed to continue your professional development, foster your own passion for learning, be happy and successful in your teaching career.

During your teacher training year, you will receive excellent professional development sessions provided by staff working across our family of alliance schools. This research-informed training ensures that you have the effective understanding of teaching and learning so that you can make a real difference in your own classrooms.

You will have the opportunity to continue your own subject specific knowledge, linking this to the wider curriculum.
